Wan's Journey from a Wheelchair to Walking on His Own

Age 80s

He came in a wheelchair. Six months later, he stands up by himself, walks around the house, and says he finally feels free.

From a wheelchair to standing up on his own.

80 years old, and still showing up.

For the past few years, Wan spent most of his days sitting down. Slowly, like many people his age, he lost the strength to move around on his own.

His daughters were worried, so they brought him to iLift. On his first day, he came in a wheelchair. Just getting him into the studio was a real struggle.

But Wan wanted this. He wanted to move again. He wanted to get back to living his life.

He started training with Coach Matiin at iLift Gala City. They went slowly, one session at a time, building up the strength in his legs.

It took six months, and Wan never missed a session.

Bit by bit, his mobility came back. He went from barely getting off his chair to standing up by himself. Now he walks around the house on his own.

Some days, his family are surprised when they can't find him in his chair. He's up and moving somewhere in the house.

Wan says he feels free now. Getting up and walking on your own two legs is something most of us take for granted. For Wan, it means his life is his own again.

Effort, turning up every week, and believing he could still change. That was the answer.

His daughter Sharipah saw the change at home too. This is what she wrote in her Google review:

“Coach Matiin is firm but very respectful, especially when working with elderly clients. He understands my dad’s condition and handles him with patience and care. He is more active and engaged, and it has really improved his overall well-being.”

If you have a parent who has slowly stopped moving, Wan's story is proof that it's not too late.
