A hairline fracture led to an osteopenia diagnosis. Strength training became her answer — and now she feels stronger, more confident, and sure she's heading the right way.
Joey is a tuition teacher — warm, bubbly and full of energy. Life took an unexpected turn the day she suffered a hairline fracture, and the follow-up brought a diagnosis she hadn't seen coming: osteopenia, the early thinning of bone that can precede osteoporosis.
It was a wake-up call. Joey knew she wanted to do something to stay healthy and strong — and rather than slow down, she chose to build herself up. She started strength training at iLift with Coach Stanley.
It turned out to be exactly what she needed. Strength training is widely recognised as one of the best ways to support bone strength and overall resilience, and Joey took to it. She can now power through 15–20 squats a set, work confidently with sandbags, and she's steadily adding weight to her lifts.
More than the numbers, it's how she feels that's changed. Joey is genuinely more confident in her own strength now, and certain she's moving in the right direction. The diagnosis that once worried her has become the very reason she feels stronger than ever.
Her story is a great reminder that a setback can be a starting point — and that building strength is one of the best investments you can make in your health, at any age.
