A yoga teacher and former nurse, she had always been active — until the years began to catch up. In her 70s, Shirley has discovered she can still get stronger, stand taller, and keep feeling like herself.
Shirley has spent a lifetime moving. She taught yoga for many years, and in her younger days she worked as a nurse — a career and a practice that kept her active and on her feet. Staying fit was simply part of who she was.
In more recent years, though, she began to notice a change. Even as she kept active, she felt weaker than she used to, and her energy wasn't quite what it had once been. It is a quiet shift that many people put down to age and accept — but Shirley wanted more than that.

Her goal was simple and refreshingly honest: to stay fit and healthy, and to still look and feel good in her 70s and the years to come. So she began strength training at iLift Gala City with Coach Welington.
Over time, the improvements showed — and with them came a realisation that surprised her: at her age, she could genuinely still get stronger. Far from being past her prime, she found there was real progress still to be made.
Some of the most meaningful changes have been the oldest ones. Shirley had lived with back and postural issues for a long time, and since she started training, those have eased noticeably — leaving her stronger, more upright, and moving through her days with far more ease.
