Sunita's Story: Redefining Independence Through Fitness

Trained By:

Coach Welington

“I enjoy every session at iLift as I work towards my goals of mobility and strength. I always look forward to the training sessions each week. Since I started, I haven’t experienced any lower back pain (I used to have back cramps and walked like a zombie), and my legs are getting stronger” – Sunita , Field Researcher

A Life of Independence and Fieldwork
Sunita, a passionate field researcher in her 50s, has always prioritized her independence. Living alone and often venturing out for fieldwork, she embraced an active lifestyle. However, with time, her health began to take a toll: knee pain made it difficult to climb stairs, back pain became a daily discomfort, and concerns about her mobility left her worried about potential falls. She knew it was time to focus on her fitness, but the thought of joining a gym felt daunting—she always saw it as a “young person’s place.”

Overcoming Fear and Finding Belonging
Sunita started with online videos and exercises at home, but they failed to bring the relief she needed. After much internal debate, she mustered the courage to visit ILift, where she discovered an inclusive, welcoming environment. She immediately felt at ease—no longer self-conscious or out of place. This support allowed her to fully engage in a fitness journey that didn’t just feel like exercise but a reclaiming of her independence.

Physical Freedom and a Positive Shift

As she trained, Sunita began experiencing tangible improvements: her knee pain gradually vanished, allowing her to climb stairs without discomfort, and her back pain diminished. More than that, she felt lighter and happier, realizing the positive impact fitness had on her mental state. Sunita no longer worries about losing her mobility; instead, she feels empowered and ready for life’s challenges.

Message to Women Over 50

Reflecting on her journey, Sunita wants to encourage other women her age: “Don’t give up on having an active life.” She is living proof that fitness is for everyone, regardless of age, and that independence and well-being are within reach with the right support.
